Born out of my desire to connect my love for style with my dream of becoming an attorney, Rule of Chic was created to combine the rule of law with the rules of style. What began as a platform exploring legal issues in fashion evolved into something even more aligned with my first love - style and cultural influence.
Over time, and after some soul-searching, I pivoted. I connected with what I’ve loved since I was a little girl. In addition to my early 2000s “passion for fashion,” beautiful clothes, pieces, and artworks, I loved and admired those who shaped and influenced beauty standards. Specifically, women who looked like me. The ones who went beyond their professional artistry as musicians or singers, models, and designers. Those who set trends and shifted the culture. Those whose creativity felt like fresh air, plus every emotion they consciously or subconsciously evoked.
As a young woman, I became increasingly drawn to design and aesthetics as a content creator, learning about the innovations and developments of others, and finding a place for myself in the fast-growing landscape of fashion, beauty, and design.
I realized that, in addition to focusing on law, I wanted to teach other people to see the power of art: to shift cultural conversations, start movements, and showcase the beauty we might miss if we don’t shine the light of our attention on it. In some ways, I use style as an ethnographic study, highlighting diverse groups of people who use style as a unique expression of cultural identity and means of resistance and survival. I’m here to tell our stories.
Rule of Chic has become my space to honor beauty and style icons and unsung heroes, use history as a reference for the future, highlight current beauty, style, and design favorites, and leave space for you, too, to ask your questions about what adds light to your life.
I look forward to where it will take us and invite you to comment, share, and join the conversation.
